Folding bowie

This is a traditional slip joint. I call it my folding bowie. It has pre-ban ivory that I fluted. There are two basic types of fluting one where you use a round file and file out the bottom with a narrow space in between cuts and this type. This can only be done with a 3 corner file. Lay it out cut the groove then round over the tops with the file. At that point you go to sand paper and re-trace the steps. At that point go finer grit then polish. It took a full day just to flute. It is the first time I have fluted a folder in years. Now I remember why.

The 2 3/4 inch blade is a W patter as is the spring. The bolster/liners are stainless and I have done deep relief engraving on the bolsters. This is an NLT marked piece.

This is pocket art. It is a measure of the joys you find in hand made items.

I will get a good photo when finished but I wanted to show you what parts I have made to build the folder.
